Delivering Global media relations with small agency precision - Celebrating 70 Years of Partnership in Japan

Last month, our Senior Consultant, Isabelle Morris represented Schon&Co, who had the privilege of supporting one of our global clients, as they celebrated 70 years of partnership with Japan. The milestone marked a remarkable journey from the exports in 1955 that helped Japan rebuild after the war, to today’s shared commitment to sustainability and decarbonisation.

Here, Isabelle gives her very own insight into delivering a global media relations strategy with small agency precision.

Our role? To plan and deliver an international media roundtable at the Palace Hotel Tokyo, bringing together Japanese business and trade media to meet the client’s CEO ahead of the anniversary ceremony, where he was honoured with the ‘Person of the Year’ award by the Brazilian Chamber of Commerce in Japan (CCBJ).

The challenge? To create seamless, locally resonant media engagement, while ensuring the experience reflected our client’s global stature and long-standing reputation in Japan.

And that’s exactly where a small, specialist agency like Schon&Co shines.

We’re often asked why global brands choose to work with a smaller PR firm like ourselves, rather than a large international network. For a moment, it’s easy to think, “well, surely they’d go big.” But here’s the truth. Big doesn’t mean better.

Working as a tight-knit team means every project receives senior attention, creative energy, and accountability at every step. There’s no hands-off, no getting lost in layers of account management. Our scale gives us the freedom to move quickly, collaborate closely with clients, and craft tailored strategies that resonate with both local and international press.

In Japan, that meant navigating cultural nuances, local media expectations, and tight timelines all while ensuring our client’s voice and vision were consistently represented. We coordinated with partners across time zones, engaged personally with Tokyo-based journalists, and provided on the ground management to deliver a roundtable that felt both intimate and high impact.

The result? A smooth, well-attended media event that strengthened relationships with Japanese business and trade media.

At Schon&Co, we may be small, but our reach is global (just check out our ‘about us’ page to find out more). This project was a proud reminder that with the right team, strong relationships, and a clear story that scale is no limitation.
